My life has been filled with vicissitudes. When I read this poem for the first time, it reminded me of those times when I stumbled but found the strength to stand up again and keep going.
This famous poem, that was often spoken by Nelson Mandela to his prison-mates, has become an anthem for self-reliance and fortitude. It rings as true today, and is as viscerally soulful, as it was when it was written well over a century ago. The Kinematic Typography class provided an opportunity for me to visualize this poem. I was inspired by Armin Hofmann's notion that the foundation of every design starts with the dot and the line. From those basic shapes, emanates a powerful design system that shifts our relationship to, and our understanding of, space.
